Protecting Your Buildings, Your Stuff, and Your Money
Insurance is a world all of its own and when you're new to the business, it takes a while to get used to the words we use, the letter and number combinations that we come up with (and people seem to just understand), and all the other stuff that doesn't make much sense.
Join us as we begin a new series of classes designed to help the new insurance person navigate this new world with confidence. In no time, you'll know the differences between a building and personal property coverage form and a builders' risk coverage form. You'll even understand the differences between an open perils policy and a named perils policy and you'll understand why the phrase "all-risks" makes Patrick twitch.
Join us as Academy Director, Patrick Wraight, dives into the world of commercial property policies.

Predicting 2025: Company Appetites, Underwriting, Competition, and Capacity
Are you struggling with managing your carrier relationships? Are you frustrated by their seemingly random actions? Are you frustrated with their inconsistency? Do you ever wonder how, if their predictive modeling is so good that now they must raise rates by 30% because they’re surprised by global warming?
Staying ahead of your carriers’ actions is difficult even in good times, much less in the hardest of hard markets. In this presentation, Chris will discuss five keys to understanding and getting ahead of your carriers’ actions. Your carrier relations don’t need to be shrouded in mystery. Join Chris to learn how to take proactive control of your carrier relations.
BAP Coverage Symbols: There's Gold in Them There Numbers
We bet you can guess the focus of this session. No, it’s about BAP coverage symbols. Although the Coverage Symbols are a “basic” of business auto coverage, there is actually a lot of key information in the symbols. Beyond the gold in the Coverage Symbols, the last part of this session focuses on coverage for Trailers, a very common coverage question.
Join us as Chris Boggs helps make Coverage Symbols crystal clear and you'll find the gold in this session.
How An Adjuster Reads An Insurance Policy
For the first time in Academy of Insurance history, participants will choose a real-world claim scenario, and Chantal Roberts will walk through the ISO Homeowner policy, step-by-step, demonstrating how an adjuster reviews the policy to make a coverage decision. Join us for this special live session. Chantal will open the adjuster tool bag and show us how it works.
The Easy Questions No One Asks (Including YOU), And What Happens When You Don't
In this session Chris Boggs talks about key underwriting questions no one asks (or thinks to ask) and what happens when you don’t. For instance, “Who owns the building?” You might think that's an easy one. We think it's obvious that the insured owns the building, but what happens at claim time when it is finally discovered that the insured doesn't own the building, and another corporation owns the building? How's that claim going to be paid? This is the sort of question that we're dealing with in this session.
Evolution of Policy Language that Can Get You Sued
One agent's renewal business is another agent's new business. this is one of the ideas that Fred Fisher will bring out in this class. Fred will bring out the nuance in insurance policy language that is giving insureds trouble when there is a claim, and he will help us to understand how and why to review clients' policies as if they are new business so that we can know how the policy reads, and how that will impact the client.
Digital Marketing and AI
AI, generational changes, and time are all telling us that what worked in marketing 10 years ago may not resonate with today's buyers. Join us as Academy expert on all things digital, Tom Wetzel as he helps us to understand what's working, what's not, and what we can do about it when it comes to digital marketing.
D&O Coverage for Public Investigations
According to legaldictionary.net, a subpoena is:
- A legal document ordering a person to appear in court, or to provide the court with specific documents.
- A legal document summoning a witness, or ordering the submission of evidence, before a court or other investigative body.
When your insured carries a D&O policy, that subpoena may trigger coverage for defense costs, at least, that's what they hope. Join us as Joe Harrington helps us to understand how a public investigation might be covered by D&O policies.
Risk Management and Insurance for the High Net Worth Client
It's more than just a platitude that "the rich have more money than us". They also might have a different manner of approaching risk. Join us as Casey Roberts brings us this perspective of risk management and insurance. We'll talk about some of the challenges we encounter when dealing with the High Net Worth (HNW) client, especially when it comes to assessing their needs from a Risk Management approach. One other challenge...the shrinking HNW marketplace.
